Hyogo Pulp Industries will install a second DD-Washer drum displacer washer and a blowline refiner at its Tanigawa mill in Japan, according to the technology supplier Andritz.
The Andritz DD-Washer features a multi-stage design that enables the mill to shut down existing washers and adjust the number of washing stages during operation. The blowline refiner processes high-kappa pulp and refines shives remaining in the pulp stream while increasing yield by reducing rejects returned from the screen room.
The washing unit ensures maximum washing efficiency and pulp quality while optimizing water usage. The refiner reduces rejects from the screen room to increase overall pulp yield.
Startup is scheduled for May 2028. No order value was disclosed. The mill has operated Andritz evaporation and methanol liquefaction plants since 2025, enabling Japan's first biomethanol production from a pulp mill.
