Freddie Mac, a U.S. mortgage-finance company, reported that the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage reached 6.95% as of September 17, up from 6.76% a week earlier and 6.26% a year earlier, according to Freddie Mac.
The average 15-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 6.26% from 6.09% the previous week. A year earlier, the rate averaged 5.41%.
The 30-year rate increased by 0.19 percentage point from the previous week and by 0.69 percentage point from a year earlier. The 15-year rate increased by 0.17 percentage point for the week and by 0.85 percentage point from a year earlier.
