U.S. printing-writing paper shipments decreased 7% in August compared to August 2025, according to the American Forest & Paper Association.
Total printing-writing paper inventory levels increased 1% when compared to July 2026, while total purchases of printing-writing papers in July showed a small increase compared to the same month last year, based on the latest available trade data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Across the three major printing-writing categories—uncoated free sheet, coated free sheet, and mechanical—net imports increased 26% in July compared to the same month last year, with UFS increasing 38%, CFS increasing 51%, and MECH net imports.
