The average U.S. 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 6.69% as of August 6, 2026, from 6.66% one week earlier. The rate averaged 6.63% during the same week in 2025, according to Freddie Mac.

The average 15-year fixed-rate mortgage declined to 6.01% from 6.04% the previous week. A year earlier, the rate averaged 5.75%.

Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said mortgage rates continued to affect affordability. He also cited listing prices that were modestly below year-earlier levels and an increase in homes available for sale compared with the limited supply recorded in recent years.
