Metsä Group inaugurates its expanded and modernised tissue paper mill in Mariestad, Sweden, on 26 May, after a Euro 370 million investment that doubles annual capacity to about 145 thousand tonnes. The expanded mill started operations in fall 2025 and is now fully operational, Metsä Group said.
The upgraded site includes a new tissue paper machine and three new converting lines that make rolled and folded tissue products. The lines are designed to run tissue production and converting at the same location.
The Mariestad mill supplies tissue products for household and professional hygiene uses in Scandinavia. The expanded capacity increases regional supply from the Swedish site.
The investment also changes the mill’s environmental performance through higher energy efficiency and lower water consumption. The company states the changes reduce emissions per tonne produced.
The Mariestad mill produces tissue products sold under Metsä Tissue brands including Lambi, Serla and Katrin.
