Private residential construction spending rose in August. Spending was up 1.1% at an $882.3 billion seasonally adjusted annual rate, from $872.7 billion in July, the Census Bureau reported.

Single-family construction ticked up 0.2% to $403.3 billion.

Improvements jumped 2.5% to $363.2 billion. Multifamily work edged up 0.2% to $115.8 billion.

Private nonresidential outlays gained 1% to $773.0 billion. Spending on data centers, part of that total, climbed 7.5% to $85.0 billion and was 73.2% above its year-earlier level. Total construction spending advanced 0.9% to $2.203 trillion in August.
